CERTIFIED PREVENTION SPECIALISTS

(Note: Hereafter Certified Prevention Specialists will be known as CPS)

Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the Certified Prevention Specialists (CPS) credential is to upgrade and standardize qualifications of those working in the area of prevention. The CPS shall be viewed as fully qualified specialists in areas of prevention and able to provide these services independently or with minimal supervision to the degree allowed by any applicable laws, statutes and regulations, and or by other governing agency privileges where a CPS may practice. The CPS is designed to be appropriate for those professionals who are currently practicing in the prevention field. The CPS is a health care professional who has been certified by the Oklahoma Certification Board of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors as having been adequately trained to provide prevention education and training. The prevention services shall be within the limitations of all- applicable state and local statutes. A CPS is also an individual who adheres to the ethical principles as set forth by the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors and the ODAPCCB Board.
